What We Do
The Skillin School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) supports Dr. Waldo T. Skillin Elementary School in South Portland, Maine. We help make our school a strong, supportive, and welcoming place for every child. We:
Build community through family events and activities.
Support learning with programs, enrichment, and classroom resources.
Give families a voice by connecting parents, caregivers, and staff.
Raise funds for extras that make school special—like field trips, playground updates, cultural events, and teacher appreciation.
By working together, we create opportunities for students to learn, grow, and thrive.

Our Mission
The Skillin School PTA’s mission is to support Skillin Elementary students by partnering with parents, teachers, and administrators to provide meaningful programs and enrichments. We fund these opportunities through direct fundraising and a variety of community-based activities.
The PTA develops, maintains, and finances programs, functions, and projects that:
Enhance the joy and well-being of students and staff in ways that complement and enrich the school’s learning environment.
Promote positive school and community relations by fostering communication among administrators, teachers, staff, families, and the South Portland community.
Recognize the dedication of administrators, teachers, and staff.
Build community within the school and strengthen connections between families and the wider community.
Encourage the investment of time, energy, and financial support into Skillin Elementary.
The PTA Does That?
Field Trips
We fundraise to cover the cost of field trips for all classes, so all students can go on FREE field trips
Teacher & Staff Appreciation
We support our teachers and staff with a stocked teacher's lounge
Community Events
We plan events that bring the Skillin community together, like Family Game Night and Playground Meetups
Special Projects
We research and apply for grants that will directly benefit Skillin, like the new playground
Enrichment Events
We fundraise to bring fun programs to the school, like the Chewonki Traveling Natural History Program
Surprise & Delight
We bring the fun to regular school days, like Popcorn Fridays
